Reliable Pumps for Your Pond

Suitable pond pumps is important for proper functioning and working of a water filtration system.  In case you’re looking to filter your garden pond then it is important to find a suitable pump so that desired results can be accomplished.

There are two main types of fish pond pumps devices;those that are submersible and those that are housed out of,but near to the pond.

Submersible pumps are often used to generate fountains and other relatively small water features within the pond. They may even be used to re-circulate water down small rockeries to create a waterfall effect.  Submersible pumps do not need to be primed and they are extremely easy to install and operate. Most have a strainer on the inlet side to prevent fish and debris being sucked into the moving parts of the unit –although this is not a filter.

The external, surface types are more powerful and usually a lot larger and more expensive than the average submersible type.  Such type are solar pond pumps machine.

In case you need to pump water to a distance for creating an extensive waterfall or a stream, then you will require a surface pump

The pump that you choose for the pond should be capable enough to handle the volume of water that is present on along with being compatible with a filter that is used. You can gauge suitability by checking the output of the pump which is given in gallons (or liters) per hour at a particular head.

This terminology can be confusing for people who don’t know much about pumps and have just been starting in Landscaping Design. But all it means is the height (or distance) from the surface of the water that the equipment can pump the water.  After water reaches a certain height, the output of water will become zero.  You can also come to know of the water pressure that equipment can provide. But remember that other factors including the length of pipe-work used and inadequate maintenance will affect output once the pump is in use.

If you are fitting a pump that will power a fountain, you will need to consider the effect of the water spurting out of the fountain. The greater the maximum head, the higher the water will spray into the air.
